    (IANS)

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) has opened in Dhaka with a display of art works by 27 renowned Bangladeshi artists.

The IGCC has been set up by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an arm of India's Ministry of External Affairs. It is one of the 24 being set up worldwide this year.

The Bangladeshi artists featuring in the group exhibition are those who have studied in India under ICCR scholarships, a media report said.

The exhibition features a diverse range of artworks in different mediums, including etching, woodcut, acrylic, oil, watercolour, bronze, terracotta, brass and more.

Seasoned painters like Abdus Shakoor Shah, Abdus Satter, Ranjit Das, Mominul Reza, Rokeya Sultana, Anisuzzaman and Farida Zaman as well as upcoming artists like Joya Shahrin Huq and Debdas Kumar Malakar displayed their creations.

Themes include panorama, female forms, traditional elements, socio-economic and political issues as well as everyday joys and woes of the masses in abstract, semi-abstract, realistic, semi-realistic, neo-expressionism, expressionism and other modes.

The exhibition was inaugurated Wednesday by ICCR president Karan Singh.

Senior Bangladeshi politician and lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Rajeet Mitter attended the opening, The Daily Star said.
